For a few days before our Hangklip Outing there was rain every day, and again on the day after, but for 19th August we had a clear blue sky!
With the temperature at 6 degrees, at the bus Marlize (our CSO) gave the twelve residents the delicious snack-packs that she had arranged plus a comprehensive interesting guide she had prepared as to what we would see on our journey. Our friendly driver, Basil, welcomed us and later chatted with the group from time to time through his microphone.
On the route we had mountains and fynbos and proteas to view on one side and waves and beaches and the vast False Bay on the other side. The passengers were enthralled by the scenery, and the excitement of the first outing in five months since Lockdown.
Considering the devastating fires of two years ago, the vegetation was remarkably lush and green due to the recent good rains. The bus was comfortable and spacious.
We paused a few times on the way to enjoy particular scenes, drove into Rooi-Els and Pringle Bay to see these quaint villages, and then all the way to the Hangklip Nature Reserve and the “end of the road”. On our return journey we stopped at a magnificent view-site to enjoy our tasty and substantial snacks and cooldrinks.
We returned to Bridgewater Manor after approx three hours of delightful traveling. Largely due to Marlize’s kind caring preparations, and her ability to turn an event into an experience, our Tour was absolutely marvelous! Heartfelt thank you!
